JOHOR BARU: In spite of belonging to opposing political parties, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi commends Pulai candidate Suhaizan Kaiat for his impartiality as the state speaker when handling a disciplinary matter concerning Onn Hafiz.
The Johor Mentri Besar, who is also the Machap assemblyman, shares a history with Suhaizan that dates back to 2018 when the Barisan Nasional was the opposition following the 14th General Election.
During this period, Onn Hafiz faced the possibility of being referred to the disciplinary committee for statements made in the state assembly. However, Suhaizan intervened and prevented the referral, citing procedural irregularities.
Speaking at a gotong-royong event in Taman Perling, Onn Hafiz expressed gratitude towards Suhaizan and recounted another incident during the administration of Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad in 2021.
At that time, when Pakatan was the opposition and Suhaizan still held the position of state speaker, Johor faced a precarious situation where they had a slim majority. Despite facing challenges due to the absence of a sick assemblyman and another member testing positive for Covid-19, Suhaizan voted in favor of the government in a deadlocked motion initiated by the opposition.
This instance further exemplified Suhaizan’s leadership abilities and earned admiration from Onn Hafiz. He believes Suhaizan will excel if given the mandate by the voters in Pulai during the upcoming by-election.
