JOHOR BARU: Pulai MP Suhaizan Kayat has denied allegations by a Johor Umno leader that he has been ‘missing’ since winning the Pulai Parliamentary by-election in September 2023.

Suhaizan, who is from Amanah, stated that ever since winning the seat a year ago, his constituency service office has remained open to assist residents in need.

“The claim that I’m missing is untrue. I am in Pulai all the time and actively involved in various community activities for the people, except when the Parliament is in session.

“We have addressed many issues and problems faced by Pulai residents, including efforts to secure funding of RM6mil to address a water pipe damage issue at the Lily and Jasmine Apartment here.

“Delayed action could lead to escalating water losses; the last bill was already worth RM1.4mil,” he said when met by reporters at the His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, installation ceremony viewing party organised at the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) in Taman Cempaka, on Saturday (July 20).

Suhaizan made these comments in response to Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi’s statement that Suhaizan should fulfil his promise to assist the constituents in Pulai, including members of the Umno Division who supported him in winning the Pulai Parliamentary by-election.

Suhaizan added that his office has also tackled a sewage problem in a residential area near the Johor Mentri Besar’s official residence.

He shared that various activities and aid have been provided to the community regardless of their background and religion in the Pulai constituency.

“The Pulai Parliamentary Service Centre is always active in finding ways to provide the best service to the people.

“Every day we receive visits from residents, and after hearing their complaints, we strive to provide the best service,” he explained.

On July 13, Utusan reported that Onn Hafiz had urged Suhaizan to fulfil his promise to assist the people in Pulai.

Onn Hafiz was quoted as saying that Suhaizan, a unity government candidate from Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah), had promised not to let down the voters who gave him a majority of 18,000 votes in the by-election.

“So now that he has become the MP, we demand that his promises be fulfilled,” he said during a speech at the Umno Pulai Division Assembly at the Tan Sri Mohamed Rahmat Complex.
