According to the Election Commission (EC), the percentage of early voters, who are police officers and personnel, in the Pulai parliamentary by-election reached 51% as of 11am on Tuesday, September 5. The EC previously reported that the figure at 10am was 34%. The early voting centres are located at the Kempas police station in Kempas and the Marine Police Region II headquarters in Tampoi. The EC data shows that 46 voters will cast their ballots at the Kempas early voting centre, while 881 voters will do so at Tampoi. The Kempas centre will remain open until noon, whereas the Tampoi centre will close at 5pm.
Pulai is one of the two constituencies in Johor with by-elections called after the passing of Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, who was the domestic trade and cost of living minister, on July 23. The other constituency is Simpang Jeram, which will not have early voting. The EC has scheduled the polling day for both seats on Saturday, September 9. The campaign period started on August 26 and will end at 11.59pm on September 8. These seats are witnessing three-cornered fights involving candidates from the incumbent Pakatan Harapan, Perikatan Nasional, and Independent parties.
