Police in Johor Baru have given approval for 38 campaign and ceramah permits for the Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state by-elections. Superintendent Ibrahim Mat Som, spokesperson for the Johor police by-election, has reminded all political parties to avoid provocation and to show respect towards each other. According to Supt Ibrahim, as of Monday (Aug 28), 18 campaign permits and one ceramah permit have been approved in Pulai, while 15 campaign permits and four ceramah permits have been approved in Simpang Jeram.
No investigation has been initiated at this point. Supt Ibrahim released a statement on Tuesday (Aug 29) to remind politicians not to discuss topics related to race, religion, and royalty during the campaign period. He added that damaging opponent posters, banners, or flags will be considered a violation and may result in legal action under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief.
