In an effort to preserve the unity of Malaysia’s multi-racial society, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has urged for an end to racial and religious politicking. As the state elections approach, Tiong believes that such tactics should be abandoned. Instead, he proposes that political parties focus on offering solutions to help the people during the challenging economic recession.
The Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister addressed these issues during the ministry’s Gawai Ngiling Bidai (Gawai closing) gathering on July 7. He emphasized the importance of providing support and initiatives to assist the people and the country amidst the uncertainty of the global economy.
The state elections are scheduled for August 12 in Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Terengganu, and Kelantan.
Tiong’s speech, delivered by deputy Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, highlighted the negative impacts of communal politics and raised concerns about the incitement of racial and religious hatred during the campaigning period. He praised the Ngiling Bidai ceremony as an example of racial and religious harmony in Sarawak and expressed his determination to promote this unique culture to attract visitors to the state.
“This is a beautiful and interesting culture. This uniqueness will attract many visitors to our state. I hope and will work to make this unique to Malaysia, in line with the concept of Malaysia Madani that is being pushed by the unity government,” explained Tiong, who serves as the Bintulu MP.
