LONDON (Reuters) – Britain’s King Charles will not observe the first anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s death with a public or private commemoration, according to a spokesperson from the royal family.
The 74-year-old monarch ascended to the throne on September 8 following the passing of his mother, Elizabeth.
The passing of the 96-year-old monarch, who was the longest-reigning king or queen in British history, elicited a global display of emotion, a ten-day mourning period, and a state funeral with thousands of people lining the streets of central London.
However, the first anniversary of her death will be observed privately and quietly by the king and his wife, Queen Camilla, as stated by a spokesperson for Buckingham Palace.
In this manner, Charles is following in his mother’s footsteps, as she used to spend the anniversary of her father’s death in a similar way.
