FOR those seeking employment, any job offer that looks promising can be too tempting to pass up – especially if it looks legitimate.
This is something that scammers seem to be aware of, and as such, one common modus operandi seems to be to pose as an established company to entice potential victims with fake job offers.
It has been claimed recently that scammers are posing as agents of the e-commerce platform Shopee to offer “jobs” that do not exist; is this true?
Verdict:
TRUE
This is in fact true, and it was confirmed by the police in a Facebook post on their official page.
“The applicant will be asked to provide bank account information and will be asked to pay a sum of money up-front as a processing fee before being promised the job,” it said in the post.
“Don’t be fooled by sweet promises or attractive offers from anyone. This is the bait syndicates use to cheat their victims,” the police added.
