When it comes to national anthems, the lyrics are an essential component. While music without words can convey emotions and carry a universal message, the biggest problem with instrumentals is that you cannot sing along with them.

Spain, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, and San Marino are all countries whose national anthems do not contain any lyrics.
For example, Spain’s national anthem, the Marcha Real, is a military march in 4/4 time. It has multiple official arrangements and adaptations at various lengths.
Despite many attempts to add lyrics to the national anthem of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Intermezzo, none were official. The country has gone through multiple national anthems and even the current one does not have an official name.
Similarly, there were lyrics written for Inno Nazionale della Repubblica, the national anthem for San Marino, but they were never officially adopted. In English, the anthem’s name translates to the National Anthem of the Republic of San Marino.
Finally, the Anthem of the Republic of Kosovo, adopted in 2008, was chosen in a national anthem contest because it contained no references to any specific ethnic group and is also known as Evropa or Europe in English.
