DOMESTIC squabbles come in many forms. But when verbal arguments take on a more physical nature, they can escalate to dangerous levels, like getting hit by sticks or a car.

Recently, a video went viral showing a group of men fighting using sticks before one of them is knocked down by a vehicle in front of an apartment in Johor Baru. Did such an incident take place?

    Verdict:

    TRUE

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said six individuals were arrested following a brawl that occurred in front of an apartment on Jalan Bayu Puteri.

He said the incident was lodged by a 28-year-old woman at 1.15pm on Tuesday (Sept 24).

“On Wednesday (Sept 25), a team of police arrested three men and three women, aged between 28 and 32, at 11.06am to help with the investigation.

“Initial investigation revealed that the fight started from a misunderstanding between a boyfriend and girlfriend who wanted to meet with their two-year-old daughter,” he said in a statement.

ACP Raub said that both suspects, aged 32 and 30, got into a heated argument before one of their male acquaintances started making provocations, which then led to a brawl.

“Five of the arrestees have no priors, while the boyfriend has five priors involving drugs,” he said, adding that all those arrested tested negative for drugs.

The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting, which carries a maximum jail term of five years, a fine, or both, upon conviction.

“We are currently on the lookout for other suspects involved in the incident who are still at large,” he added.
