“Similar to pork, non-halal foods like frogs must be kept separate from halal foods,” explained Associate Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Izhar Ariff Mohd Kashim in an interview with Sinar Harian.
As the deputy dean of Industry and Community Networks at the Faculty of Islamic Studies, National University of Malaysia (UKM), he expressed his disapproval of the supermarket mixing the frog meat with halal food, stating that it is forbidden for Muslims to consume frog meat.
“According to the Shafie School as explained by Imam Nawawi in the Book of Majmuk, Muslims cannot eat frogs. Because Malaysia follows the Shafie sect, Muslims in Malaysia believe that frog meat is prohibited,” he added.
