It doesn’t matter if the items in question are jewellery or fruit, people will try to make off with anything if there’s a chance that it can bring in some money.

There are recent claims that a group of men were caught trying to steal palm oil fruit from a Johor estate with a car after a video allegedly of their act went viral online.

Is there any truth to this claim?

    VERDICT:

    TRUE

In a statement, Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Ismail Dollah confirmed that the incident happened. He added that these men were arrested after the video of them being told off by the public for stealing palm oil fruit went viral on social media.

He said that the three men are aged between 30 and 66 and added that a team from the Batu Pahat district police headquarters made the arrest last week. They also seized the palm oil fruit as well as the car used in the incident.

He said that all three were remanded until Saturday (Dec 30) to assist the investigations under Section 379 of the Penal Code.
