Have you ever replaced breakfast with a steaming cup of coffee? You’re not the only one.

For many people, coffee holds a special place in their daily routine, with many swearing by its ability to boost their energy levels to a point that they can start their day.

However, is it true that coffee holds added benefits beyond the caffeine jolt? Does it really have the power to curb appetites, as some have claimed?

    VERDICT:

    SOMEWHAT

According to ongoing research, individuals who regularly consume two cups of coffee appear to experience reduced appetite and increased feelings of fullness.

This is due to the combination of antioxidants and caffeine present in roasted beans, as the chlorogenic acids found in both green and roasted coffee can interfere with the release of ghrelin.

This is a hormone produced by the stomach which is interpreted in the brain as a signal of hunger.

Additionally, coffee or caffeine consumption can elevate adrenaline or cortisol levels, further reducing hunger.

However, experts suggest that while caffeine does have some appetite-suppressing ability, its effect is minor and temporary.

Its primary effect is to boost the circulation of fatty acids, enhancing fat oxidation and providing a short-term energy boost.

As such, opting for black coffee after meals may help curb cravings because of its low calorie content and its potential to stimulate calorie burning and fat breakdown.

This may be particularly beneficial for those following an exercise or diet regimen, as it can reduce fatigue and improve overall well-being.

So, the next time you brew your favorite cup, consider its role in appetite regulation and promoting mindful eating, alongside its aromatic flavour.
