News of newly opened routes, whether true or false, tend to spread quickly, especially among those who would benefit from easier travel.

A viral WhatsApp message claimed that a federal route from Kuantan in Pahang to Segamat in Johor is now open to all road users due to a large sinkhole. Is this claim true?

    VERDICT:

    FALSE

The Pahang Public Works Department (JKR) refuted the viral WhatsApp information, stating that Federal Route FT12 remains closed, as previously announced by the Pekan JKR. The installation of a bailey bridge at the site of the road collapse is still in progress.

In a Facebook post on Sunday (Jan 14), Pahang JKR also mentioned that the dirt road beside the bailey bridge is only temporary and is considered unsafe for road users. JKR will not be responsible for any incidents that may occur to road users on this temporary road.

Furthermore, JKR stated that it would report any dissemination of false information and advised the public not to spread false information.
