IN THE lush landscapes of Sabah, a recent tale has residents both intrigued and on edge.

Viral videos have shown a massive crocodile being hauled onto a four-wheel-drive vehicle, sparking curiosity and concern.

But did this formidable reptile really get captured in Tuaran, or is this just another fishy story?

    Verdict:

    TRUE

A 3.6m crocodile was successfully captured after taking the bait on a fishing line set in a river area in Kampung Dungun, Tuaran, Sabah on Monday (Sept 23).

Sabah Wildlife Department Director Roland Oliver Niun stated that the catch was made at 11am after the reptile took the chicken bait placed on the fishing line.

“A fishing line was set up in the area after we received complaints from residents about the presence of a crocodile near their homes. The Wildlife Department then installed the crocodile fishing line using chicken bait at the location,” he said when contacted by Sinar Harian on Monday.

He added that the effort resulted in the successful capture of the crocodile as reported by the local residents.

“Staff from the Wildlife Department attempted to shoot the animal, but the effort had to be halted due to safety concerns as the crocodile was aggressive. The crocodile was eventually captured for further action,” he said.

Earlier, two viral videos of 37 and 22 seconds in duration showed a crocodile being loaded onto a four-wheel-drive vehicle, believed to be from a river in Tuaran.
