When we think of motorbike stunts, the typical imagery that comes to mind is a group of boys showcasing their skills with wheelies and daring maneuvers like the “Superman” stunt.
It is rare for women to be associated with such activities, but a recent incident reported that three women were detained for performing stunts on motorcycles along the North-South highway.
Was this truly a case of female bikers breaking the stereotype and engaging in reckless behavior on the roads?
Verdict:
TRUE
Reports confirmed that a group of motorcyclists, including three young women, were indeed caught performing stunts on the North-South highway.
Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) director Comm Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri revealed that they were alerted to a video clip uploaded on X (formerly Twitter) by a user named @ibuperi_ on March 10 at 5.34pm.
“The video depicted a group of riders engaging in stunts where they lay down on their bikes with legs outstretched, mimicking the iconic flying pose like Superman,” he explained.
“The recording was captured along the North-South highway. Following the information provided, we identified and subsequently arrested the three women involved near Melaka on March 13.
“The motorcycles used during the stunt were seized for further investigation.”
“Further inquiry revealed that the women were part of a motorcycle group named ‘Awek Melaka’, with all members residing around the Melaka area,” Comm Mohd Azman stated in a release on March 14.
The director mentioned that the incident occurred as the group was returning in a convoy after dining at a restaurant in Serdang, Selangor.
“They admitted to engaging in stunts on the highway after being influenced by each other,” he added.
The case is currently under investigation pursuant to Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which pertains to reckless and dangerous driving.
Earlier on March 10, several brief videos went viral showcasing the women performing the stunts in broad daylight on the highway, maneuvering through traffic with cars and lorries.
