On Monday (Jan 29), Raja Zarith Sofiah Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah, the Permaisuri of Johor, departed for Kuala Lumpur in anticipation of the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, assuming the federal throne as the 17th King of Malaysia for a five-year term commencing on Jan 31.
Sultan Ibrahim announced the news through a post on his official Facebook page, accompanied by several photos. Raja Zarith Sofiah was joined on the trip by her son Tunku Putera of Johor Tunku Abu Bakar Sultan Ibrahim.
Prior to her departure, Raja Zarith Sofiah was welcomed at the Johor Royal Hangar, Senai International Airport, Kulai by Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and his wife Datin Sharmin Fazlina Mohd Shukor. – Bernama
