SEREMBAN: Former senator Datuk Ras Adiba Radzi and former Putrajaya Umno division deputy chief Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz have officially joined Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), receiving their membership certificates from Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. This momentous occasion took place during the launch of the Perikatan Nasional election machinery, which drew a crowd of several thousand people eagerly anticipating the upcoming state polls.
Tun Faisal’s entrance into Bersatu comes after being expelled from Umno in January, as he became a prominent critic of Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Muhyiddin expressed his delight at the large turnout, viewing it as a promising indication that Perikatan Nasional would emerge victorious in the state polls.
During his speech, Muhyiddin questioned the accomplishments of the current government, stating, “What has this so-called unity government done since assuming power in the last seven months? What actions have they taken to address the escalating cost of living issue?” He emphasized that a survey conducted in Selangor revealed the grave concerns of the people regarding this matter, further pointing out the depreciation of the ringgit’s value.
Highlighting his government’s commitment to addressing rising prices, Muhyiddin acknowledged that commodity costs had increased during his tenure as Prime Minister. However, he assured the public that strict enforcement measures were in place to combat profiteering. Importers, producers, and wholesalers were regularly contacted and advised against price hikes. Additionally, legal provisions were utilized to hold accountable those who unfairly burdened the people with exorbitant prices.
In a show of support for Bersatu, former state PKR chief Azlimah Zamli and ex-Jelebu PKR division chief Yus Mazmi Ahmad Yusof also completed their application forms to join the party during the event. Prominent figures such as state Perikatan chief Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, PAS vice president Idris Ahmad, and Gerakan secretary-general Mah Kah Keong were in attendance as well.
In the previous general election, Pakatan Harapan secured 20 seats, while Barisan Nasional claimed the remaining 16. The upcoming state polls will undoubtedly be a significant event, with Bersatu and its allies determined to make a substantial impact and secure a decisive victory.
