In Raub, a wedding planner has been sentenced to two years in jail for accepting payment for work he never did.
The bride who hired him to coordinate her wedding on Nov 12 filed a report with the Raub police after he failed to show up, resulting in a loss of RM18,999.
Raub police chief Supt Mohd Shahril Abd Rahman stated that the owner of a bridal boutique was taken into custody on Nov 20 and confessed to taking payment but not fulfilling his obligations.
He also confessed to being involved in 11 other cases where police reports were made, Supt Mohd Shahril added.
The man was charged with five counts of cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code at the Raub Magistrate’s Court on Nov 24 and pleaded guilty to all charges, resulting in a two-year jail sentence and one stroke of the cane for each count to be served concurrently.
Supt Mohd Shahril advised the public to thoroughly vet event management consultants before handing over money to avoid falling victim to a scam.
