PLUS Malaysia Berhad has announced plans to enhance 18 Smart Lane locations along the North-South Expressway (PLUS) in preparation for this year’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration. The aim is to ensure smooth traffic flow during the festive period.

Mohd Yusuf Abdul Aziz, the senior general manager of PLUS operations, highlighted the improvements that will be made, including enhancing notification and warning signs in terms of design and quantity. He mentioned the installation of Variable Message Signs (VMS) and the addition of flashing green lights on the signages to indicate when the Smart Lane is activated.

The Smart Lane concept is introduced to increase lane capacity on identified routes, reduce congestion during peak hours, and enhance traffic flow along the highway.

Mohd Yusuf also emphasized the importance of not misusing emergency lanes, as it is considered an offence under existing laws. He urged all highway users to yield to emergency vehicles such as police cars and ambulances when using the Smart Lane.

Motorists were advised to plan their journeys by selecting appropriate dates and times for their road trips. They should prepare for longer drives and ensure that their payment cards have sufficient balance for toll payments.

To stay updated on traffic information, users can download the PLUS application, follow the X@PLUSTrafik account, interact with Chatbot PUTRI, check VMS at specific locations, or contact PLUSLINE at 1800-88-0000.

PLUS estimated that 2.1 million vehicles per day would use the expressway on selected dates due to the festive holiday, compared to the usual 1.82 million during normal peak hours. This increase is also attributed to the two-day toll exemption for Class 1 vehicles (private vehicles) on April 8 and April 9.
