KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has called on Pakatan Harapan leaders to discipline their members for making provocative comments about the Pardons Board’s decision on former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak. He emphasized the need for them to apologize to his party, Umno. Ahmad Zahid stated that he believed the comments made did not reflect the positions of their respective parties as they were not made by the top leadership.
Umno leaders criticized former DAP leader and MP Tony Pua for his comments on the Pardons Board’s decision to reduce Najib’s jail term in the SRC International case. However, Ahmad Zahid mentioned that he would not stop other Umno leaders from lodging police reports against those who criticized the decision.
He said that while the antagonistic opinions of certain individuals did not represent the official stance of the parties, the party leaders must reprimand those individuals and have them delete their comments and apologize.
The Pardons Board revealed that following the reduction of his sentence, Najib will be released on Aug 23, 2028. If the fine is not paid, the release date will then be on Aug 23, 2029.
Meanwhile, Pua’s Facebook posts expressing his dissatisfaction with the decision led to an investigation being launched, as his comments allegedly insulted the royal institution. Pua was summoned to Bukit Aman to provide his statement.
