KUALA LUMPUR: Three police officers who were detained in connection with the alleged theft of RM85,000 have had their remand extended until Friday (Dec 29), said Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay. He stated that the extension was necessary to complete the investigation before it is referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor.
Ayob Khan emphasized that there would be no cover-up and no tolerance for any wrongdoing. He said the police will continue to investigate any reports and detain those involved if there is a basis for it.
Regarding the arrests of the trio, Ayob Khan stated that it will not deter the police from conducting more operations against hotspots for foreigners.
The arrests came after it was reported that three policemen involved in a large-scale operation in Jalan Silang on Thursday were arrested for robbing a shop lot in the area, allegedly walking away with RM85,000 from one of the premises.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid confirmed the matter, stating that investigations were launched after the complainant lodged a police report on Dec 22. The three suspects were initially remanded from Dec 23 until Dec 26.
The large screening operation on Jalan Silang on Dec 21 involved more than 1,000 enforcement personnel, primarily General Operations Force personnel, and other agencies. They raided four blocks of shops in an effort to curb illegal activities and screen businesses owned by or employing foreigners to ensure their operations are legitimate.
