KUALA LUMPUR: A police report has been lodged over a news portal report claiming there would be a major reshuffle of the police leadership.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the case is being investigated under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Act 1998.

“We advise the public not to speculate on the matter. Stern action will be taken against anyone who spreads false statements on social media,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Aug 6).

Earlier, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain denied the veracity of the article.

The news portal claimed that among those involved in the reshuffle are Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay and Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain.

Quoting sources, the portal reported that Ayob Khan might be transferred to lead either the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) or the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) while Comm Mohd Shuhaily might be heading to the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK)

The portal went on to state that it was an internal Bukit Aman plan and the Home Ministry was not involved.

The MMEA director-general post is currently vacant following Datuk Hamid Mohd Amin’s retirement and the same applies for AADK following Sutekno Ahmad Belon’s transfer to the Human Resources Ministry as deputy secretary-general.
