KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian government has allocated RM100mil to six enforcement agencies to enhance their equipment and capabilities. This move is seen as a motivational boost to improve the effectiveness of carrying out their duties. Director-general of the Prisons Department, Datuk Nordin Muhamad, expressed the need for this allocation due to logistical shortages faced by the enforcement agency. The funds will be used to address shortages in prisoner escort vehicles, weaponry, security control equipment, and tools required for rehabilitation programs. According to Bernama, this allocation is expected to enhance the staff’s performance and further improve their duties.
Another benefit of this initiative is an improved uniform allowance, which will reduce staff expenses related to uniforms. Datuk Nordin Muhamad stated that this will contribute to neater uniforms and ultimately boost staff morale. Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, also expressed gratitude to the government for providing the allocation. He emphasized that this allocation will empower the Royal Malaysia Police force and safeguard the welfare of its members.
Tan Sri Azam Baki, chief commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, highlighted that the allocation can be used to repair or replace equipment necessary for the agency’s services. He praised the government’s initiative, acknowledging their concern for improving enforcement capacity to provide efficient service to the people.
On Thursday (July 13), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the allocation of RM100mil to enhance the equipment and capabilities of six enforcement agencies. The initiative also includes improving the Uniform Allowance for the Management and Professional Group (P&P), along with a study to empower enforcement agencies and improve career paths for officers and staff. Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, urged the Treasury secretary-general, Datuk Johan Mahmood, to disburse the RM100mil allocation to the enforcement agencies by the end of next week.
The six agencies benefiting from this allocation are the Malaysian Armed Forces, the Royal Malaysia Police, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, the Prisons Department, the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department, and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living.
