Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong stated that the joining of the connecting span for the Rapid Transit System (RTS) project link between Malaysia and Singapore on Thursday (Jan 11) was a moment of historical significance. The MCA president made this remark in a Facebook post on Thursday (Jan 11), also mentioning that both Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong officiated the link between Johor Baru and Singapore.
This 4km-long transport transportation system has the capacity to accommodate 10,000 passengers per hour, providing considerable benefits to the people of both nations. Dr Wee emphasized that the system would not only alleviate traffic congestion but also promote cross-border activities and businesses.
He further mentioned that the RTS project was signed by both Malaysia and Singapore about three years ago, with the aim of completing it within six years by Dec 31, 2026. The construction phase spans four years, followed by two years for safety tests and other related processes pertaining to trains (rolling stocks) before they are permitted for public use.
Dr Wee expressed his appreciation to the Prime Minister for agreeing to continue the project, recognizing it as a catalyst for economic growth once operational.
