MELBOURNE (Reuters) – Stephen Larkham will be in charge of the ACT Brumbies through to the end of the 2026 Super Rugby Pacific season after signing a contract extension.

Since returning to Canberra in 2023 for a second stint as head coach, Larkham has guided the Brumbies to back-to-back semi-finals in the provincial competition of mainly Australian and New Zealand teams.

“I feel the Brumbies are in a great position heading into 2025 and I am excited to leverage our recent on-field strength in our preparations as we aim for further success next season,” the former Wallabies flyhalf said in a media release on Monday.

Larkham also took the Brumbies to the playoffs in every season of his first stint as head coach from 2014-17.

While the Brumbies have been Australia’s most dominant side in Super Rugby, they have been unable to break New Zealand’s stranglehold over the competition.

The last Australian team to win the title was the New South Wales Waratahs in 2014.

The Auckland-based Blues will defend their title in 2025.
