In Cardiff, Winger Duhan van der Merwe scored two tries to help Scotland secure their first win in the city in 22 years. The team withstood a strong fightback from Wales to seal a 27-26 victory on Saturday.
Scotland’s prop Pierre Schoeman also managed to cross for a try, giving the visitors a 27-0 lead early in the second half. At that point, it looked like they were going to set a record score against the Welsh. However, yellow cards for hooker George Turner and centre Sione Tuipulotu stunted their momentum, allowing the hosts to score 26 unanswered points.
Despite being at a numerical disadvantage, Wales used this to their advantage and scored four tries through flankers James Botham and Alex Mann, winger Rio Dyer, and number eight Aaron Wainwright, earning them two bonus points.
Scotland coach Gregor Townsend will likely be concerned about his team’s performance after being so dominant in the first half. On the other hand, Wales counterpart Warren Gatland will regret the six lost lineouts on their own throw, especially in attacking situations.
