According to a report by Reuters, Australia center Lalakai Foketi is expected to recover fully from a neck injury that caused concern for his rugby career and unsettled his New South Wales Waratahs teammates.
Foketi underwent extensive medical treatment at the Waratahs’ training facility last Thursday, followed by a trip to the hospital in an ambulance for scans that revealed no serious spinal injury.
The Waratahs announced on Monday that Foketi had been discharged from the hospital on Saturday and was now recuperating at home.
While there was no specific timeline provided for his return, the team expressed optimism about Foketi’s full recovery and their anticipation of his return to the field after completing rehabilitation.
In the coming days, Foketi will consult with specialists to assess his condition further, with a Waratahs spokesperson indicating that it is still too early to determine if he will be able to participate in the 2024 season.
The Waratahs suffered a 40-22 defeat to the Queensland Reds in their first match of the Super Rugby Pacific season over the weekend, highlighting the absence of Foketi from the lineup.
