(Reuters) – Russian drones conducted an attack on port and grain storage facilities in Ukraine’s Odesa region early Wednesday morning, causing some of them to catch fire, according to regional governor Oleh Kiper on the Telegram messaging app.
Kiper stated that there have been no reports of casualties. In response to the refusal to extend the Black Sea grain deal, which allowed for Ukrainian grain exports, Russia has intensified its attacks on Ukrainian agricultural and port infrastructure.
Reports from Ukrainian media indicated that the drones arrived from the Black Sea and moved west along the Danube river towards Izmail, a crucial port used to transport Ukrainian grain to the Black Sea port of Constanta in Romania for further shipment.
In addition, several foreign cargo ships arrived at the Izmail port via the Black Sea on Sunday, marking the first time since the grain deal expired.
The Izmail port terminal on the Danube delta was also targeted in a previous Russian attack in late July, resulting in the destruction of grain warehouses.
