LONDON (Reuters) – According to anonymous Western officials, Russia is facing a shortage of domestic ammunition production to meet the demands of the Ukraine war. The country’s military industry is struggling due to the impact of sanctions, and its inability to access Western components is affecting its ability to produce new systems and repair old ones.
The officials stated, “Russia’s domestic ammunition production capabilities are currently insufficient for meeting the needs of the Ukraine conflict.” They also noted that sanctions are having a severe impact on the Russian military industrial complex, causing delays and increased costs.
This assessment comes as the Ukraine war enters its third year and with Russia’s control over the Ukrainian town of Avdiivka. It also coincides with warnings that Ukraine is running out of ammunition.
