(Reuters) – Russia conducted an overnight air assault on Ukraine on Sunday, launching missiles across various regions in the northern and central parts of the country, according to authorities.
The Ukrainian military confirmed that it had successfully intercepted and shot down four cruise missiles out of a total of eight airborne targets detected, suggesting that the remaining targets were likely false. They also stated that no immediate reports of strikes had been received.
Ruslan Kravchenko, the governor of the Kyiv region, revealed that in one unidentified area of the region, two individuals had been injured and 10 buildings had sustained damage from missile debris. In a statement, he expressed gratitude for the air defense forces’ professional efforts, emphasizing that critical and residential infrastructure remained untouched.
For approximately three hours early on Sunday, an air raid alert was in effect throughout Ukraine before it was lifted at around 6 a.m. (0300 GMT).
As part of its ongoing 18-month-long full-scale invasion, Russia has consistently launched air strikes using missiles and drones against Ukrainian towns and cities far from the front lines.
