(Reuters) – Russian forces conducted shelling in eastern Ukraine, resulting in the deaths of at least three individuals in various regions affected by the ongoing conflict with Russia. Additionally, two more individuals were reported dead in Lviv region, which is located far from the front lines of the war.

In Kharkiv, a city in the northeastern part of Ukraine that has frequently been targeted by Russia, the regional governor Oleh Synehubov confirmed that a strike by Russian forces had hit civilian infrastructure. Reports from regional news outlets indicated that aerial bombs were dropped in different areas of the region, although no injuries were reported.

Tragically, heavy shelling earlier in the day claimed the life of a man in the town of Borova, southeast of Kharkiv, according to local prosecutors. In Donetsk region, situated in the southeast of Ukraine, police reported that Russian shelling affected 14 towns and villages, resulting in two deaths in Krasnohorivka, which is located west of the Russian-held regional center of Donetsk.

Last month, Russian forces, which have been engaged in the conflict for over two years, captured the city of Avdiivka in Donetsk region. Despite small gains by Russian troops, little has changed along the lengthy 1,000-km (600-mile) front in recent months.

Notably, attacks on infrastructure have extended beyond the traditional front lines, as demonstrated by the governor of Lviv region, Maksym Kozitskyi, who confirmed that two individuals were killed in a strike by cruise missiles. Rescue efforts continued throughout the day at the site of the incident.

Across the border in Russia’s Belgorod Region, a frequent target of Ukrainian shelling, regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported that a woman lost her life when a border village came under attack. Due to the nature of the conflict, it has proven challenging for Reuters to independently verify the details of military actions reported by either side.
