The Sabah Forestry Department has confirmed that Mount Sinsing in Tambunan is the third tallest mountain in Malaysia. It has an altitude of 2,586 meters above mean sea level (m.s.l).
Datuk Frederick Kugan, the Chief Conservator of Forests, stated that this height measurement data was obtained during an expedition conducted by a research team from the Forest Research Centre Sepilok and representatives from Kampung Nupakan Community Association in Tambunan on May 10. The data was collected using the Stonex S900A Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver.
Subsequently, the observation data were sent to a licensed surveying company for processing to officially establish the mountain’s height in m.s.l terms. The result showed that Mount Sinsing stands at 2,586 m.s.l, thereby retaining its position as the third tallest mountain in Malaysia and Borneo,” said Datuk Frederick Kugan in a statement on Friday (Aug 25).
Mount Sinsing gained attention in 2018 when it was claimed to be the third tallest mountain in Malaysia and Borneo, following Mount Kinabalu (4,096 meters) and Mount Trusmadi (2,643 meters) located in Sabah. The Sabah Forestry Department is dedicated to protecting areas of interest such as Mount Sinsing, which is situated near Mount Trusmadi. The mountain serves as a habitat for various flora and fauna.
