KOTA KINABALU: Graft busters have arrested five civil servants working at a healthcare centre here on suspicion of submitting falsified claims worth some RM146,000.
According to a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) source, the suspects, in their 30s and 40s, comprised an assistant medical officer and four nurses.
The source said they were detained when they came to give their statements at the Sabah MACC office here at 9.40am on Tuesday (Sept 10).
Initial investigations indicated that the suspects had submitted false claims for overtime work from 2020 to 2021 when in reality, they had not put in the shifts, the source added.
When contacted, Sabah MACC chief Datuk S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrests, saying the probe was being conducted under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
He said the suspects have been released on MACC bail and will be charged at the Sessions Court here on Thursday (Sept 12).
