The Sabah-Malaysia My Second Home (Sabah-MM2H) programme is set to be launched next month, according to Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew. She mentioned that the state government is finalizing the terms and conditions after making some amendments to the program. Once approved by the state Cabinet and gazetted, the terms and conditions will be made available on the program’s website for interested applicants.
At a recent Tourism Industry Players Engagement Session 2024 in Kota Kinabalu, Liew addressed a question from Sandakan Tourism Association president Teo Chee Kim about the qualifying criteria for the Sabah-MM2H programme. In September 2022, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor had announced that Sabah would introduce its own version of the MM2H program, distinct from the federal program’s requirements.
During the engagement session, Sabah Tourism Board CEO Julinus Jeffery Jimit highlighted the importance of regular interaction with tourism stakeholders to address industry issues. He emphasized the commitment of the ministry and STB to collaborate with industry players for the advancement of tourism in Sabah and the establishment of a more robust tourism ecosystem in the region.
Jimit expressed confidence in achieving tourism growth targets for 2024 through continued engagement with stakeholders as advised by Datuk Christina. He emphasized the potential strength of collaboration in driving success under the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) development agenda and urged industry players to work together towards a common goal.
With a shared vision and purpose, Jimit believes that industry players can contribute significantly to the growth and development of tourism in Sabah. The first engagement session of the year concluded with a positive outlook on the potential for success through collaboration and synergy among stakeholders in the tourism sector.
