South Korea’s interior minister has called on the organisers of the 25th World Scout Jamboree to prioritize the safety of participants following more than 400 cases of heat exhaustion. The event commenced on Tuesday, coinciding with the highest-level heat warning in four years. Symptoms experienced by affected scouts included headache, dizziness, and nausea, but all individuals were able to return to their camp sites, according to a Jeonbuk Fire Service official. The extreme temperatures have caused at least 16 deaths in South Korea, prompting Interior and Safety Minister Lee Sang-min to request additional ambulances, shuttle buses, and air conditioners on standby. The jamboree is expected to last until August 12 and will feature the participation of approximately 43,000 scouts from around the world. The event is being held in a large-scale sea reclamation project in Buan, and its opening ceremony was attended by President Yoon Suk Yeol and British TV adventurer Bear Grylls. At the time of reporting, the organising committee for the global scout jamboree had not provided a comment on the situation.
