KUCHING: Sarawak is interested in partnering with the European Union (EU) to address climate change, as stated by Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
The Chief Minister mentioned that the EU possesses experience and technology while Sarawak’s strength lies in its natural resources and renewable energy.
“Despite being a small state, we believe we have a responsibility to contribute to climate change solutions and carbon emissions reduction.
“You are encouraged to explore potential areas of collaboration with us in this regard, and together we can make a global impact,” he said during the EU-Malaysia Business Day networking dinner on Wednesday (Feb 14) night.
Abang Johari also identified digitalization and education as other potential areas for collaboration.
“Possibly, we can send our students to pursue studies in Europe,” he added.
At the same event, Abang Johari officially inaugurated InvestSarawak, the state’s investment and trade agency.
InvestSarawak will function as a centralized hub and primary contact point for all investors in Sarawak, responsible for facilitating the development, applications, and approvals of investment projects in the state, as well as enhancing the ease of doing business.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan expressed that InvestSarawak is a crucial initiative aimed at transforming the investment landscape, boosting trade, and enhancing talent attraction in the state.
“It will play a pivotal role as a facilitator and advisor, offering valuable local insights to all investors, whether foreign or domestic,” he stated.
