KUCHING: Sarawak’s Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) is set to hold a thanksgiving prayer ceremony in celebration of the state’s 60th anniversary within Malaysia this year. The deputy minister in charge of the ceremony, Datuk Liwan Lagang, has announced that the event will take place on July 21 as one of the major highlights of the anniversary celebration.
The ceremony will be officiated by Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who has been invited to preside over the event. Representatives from six different religions will gather to recite their respective prayers as a symbol of harmony and unity.
This interfaith ceremony will reflect the spirit of Segulai Sejalai, as it will commence with the Baha’i prayer, followed by prayers from the Buddhist, Hindu, Christian, Sikh, and Tao communities. The prayers will revolve around the themes of prosperity, peace, political stability, unity, and social inclusivity, which are believed to bring blessings upon Sarawak.
Prior to the thanksgiving ceremony, Unifor has organized monthly prayer sessions from January to June, rotating among the six religions at their respective houses of worship. Each religion was assigned a special theme in line with Sarawak’s 60 years of independence, setting the tone for the upcoming ceremony.
The event is expected to host more than 700 esteemed guests, including ministers, deputy ministers, department heads, and religious and community leaders. To ensure wider participation, the public is encouraged to join the ceremony through its live broadcast on TVS and the Sarawak Public Communications Unit’s Facebook and YouTube channels.
