Riyadh, July 15 (Xinhua) – According to a report from the official Saudi Press Agency, Saudi Arabia has made efforts to promote its civilization and heritage in line with the Saudi Vision 2030 since the establishment of the independent Ministry of Culture in 2018.
The report, titled “Promotion of Saudi Arabia’s Unique Civilization and Heritage by the Ministry of Culture,” highlighted various programs launched by the ministry in recent years. These include the King Salman Global Academy for the Arabic Language, dedicated to promoting the Arabic language worldwide, and the Red Sea International Film Festival, aimed at enriching local film content.
In an effort to contribute about 3 percent to the GDP by 2030 by harnessing Saudi Arabia’s cultural potential, the ministry has designated 2021 as the “Year of Arabic Calligraphy,” 2022 as the “Year of Saudi Coffee,” and 2023 as the “Year of Arabic Poetry” to showcase specific aspects of Arabic and Saudi cultural life to the world.
Saudi Arabia also hosted the first joint meeting of G20 culture ministers in late 2020, seeking to build connections with other civilizations and discuss the increasing role of culture in the global economy.
A Saudi royal decree issued on June 2, 2018, established the Ministry of Culture as an independent entity separate from the Ministry of Media.
