RIYADH, July 9 (Xinhua) – Riyadh is set to undergo a major greening initiative with the installation of water pipes spanning 1,350 km, according to a report from the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
These pipes will be used to irrigate a staggering 7.5 million trees in the Saudi Arabian capital, representing a significant effort to enhance residential neighborhoods in the city. The SPA report highlights that the water pipes will employ cutting-edge technologies such as remote control and monitoring systems to ensure seamless water flow.
Further, all water used in this initiative will be fully treated, fully aligning with the program’s commitment to the use of renewable resources.
Riyadh has set ambitious targets for its green coverage, aiming to increase it to 9.1 percent, as well as boosting the per capita share of green spaces by 15 times to 28 square meters. Alongside this, Saudi Arabia has unveiled plans to plant an astounding 10 billion trees nationwide in the coming decades.
