GOMBAK: Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari (pic) said he will refer to the state legal adviser on how to proceed with the suit against the Selangor government by the victims and family members of the Batang Kali landslide victims.
Speaking to reporters after officiating at the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) Gombak Tunnel breakthrough ceremony here today, he said that the initial report on the landslide concluded that it was a natural disaster.
“We have explained to them and handed the report, but it’s up to them if they feel dissatisfied or there was negligence.
“I will refer to the legal adviser on the consequences,” he said.
A news portal reported on Monday (Oct 28) that the victims and family members of those who died in the 2022 Batang Kali landslide are suing the Selangor government and six others for breach of duty and negligence.
The others being sued by the 23 plaintiffs include the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation, the Hulu Selangor Municipal Council, and the Selangor Public Works Department director.
Also being sued are BL Agro Sdn Bhd, Malaysia Botanical Gardens Resort Sdn Bhd and Infrasel Sdn Bhd.
In the statement of claim, the plaintiffs said they were seeking damages for property damage, personal injury and special damages, as well as dependency and bereavement damages.
At the event, the ECRL project’s 959m Gombak Tunnel achieved a tunnelling breakthrough one month ahead of schedule, becoming the 36th ECRL tunnel to succeasfully complete the excavation process to date.
