SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Pakatan Harapan machinery is fully utilizing the period leading up to the state election to engage with the voters and residents of Selangor. They aim to highlight the successful achievements of their administration throughout their term in the state. According to Selangor PH election director Mohd Yahya Mat Sahri, all the accomplishments of the state government will be used as campaign material to gain the support of the people in Selangor. Instead of focusing on accusations, the campaign will emphasize what has been done and what is planned for the future. Yahya believes that the people of Selangor will be more accepting of this approach.
Yahya stated that Pakatan’s ability to govern Selangor was clearly demonstrated by its significant contribution to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth last year. Selangor’s economy accounted for 25.5% of the national economy, proving the party’s effective governance. He emphasized that this data is not released arbitrarily, but is based on concrete evidence. The party’s initiatives have consistently prioritized the economy and the well-being of the people.
Addressing the cooperation between Pakatan and Barisan Nasional, Yahya confirmed that both coalitions have agreed to work together to achieve a common goal of winning the election. The agreement was reached after discussions among central and state leaders, and the two coalitions continue to build a cohesive community. Yahya expressed satisfaction with the agreement, as no issues arose during the discussions. He highlighted that the election was thoroughly discussed and a consensus was reached in just 20 minutes.
When asked about the people’s confidence in the alliance, Yahya expressed his belief that the voters in Selangor are open-minded. He further revealed that Pakatan is aiming to capture 51 out of the 56 State Assembly seats at stake, emphasizing their strong support base in the state. Selangor has a total of 3,747,057 voters, and the state election will take place simultaneously with five other states on August 12, including Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu.
In the previous 14th General Election (GE14), Pakatan emerged as the dominant party in Selangor, winning 51 seats compared to Barisan’s four seats and PAS’s one seat. Prior to the dissolution of the state assembly, Pakatan held 40 seats, while BN held five and Bersatu held four. The remaining seats were distributed among Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM), PAS, Pejuang, Warisan, and an independent assemblyman. One seat, the Batang Kali seat, was declared vacant due to the assemblyman’s absence from State Assembly sittings for more than six months. It should be noted that Bersatu had initially formed an alliance with Pakatan in GE14 but later withdrew its support, leading to changes in the distribution of seats due to party hopping by assemblymen. – Bernama
