During a meeting with Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming on Friday (Feb 23), the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, emphasized the importance of unity among Malaysians in revitalizing the economy to gain respect from the global community.

The Housing and Local Government Ministry released a statement highlighting that Sultan Sharafuddin expressed his concerns about the state’s development during the 90-minute audience with Nga.

Nga shared that aside from implementing policies within the New Industrial Master Plan 2030, Sultan Sharafuddin emphasized the Selangor government’s efforts in the renewable energy industry, particularly in the establishment of solid waste to energy plants and the promotion of the green economy.

Currently, the Selangor government is in the process of considering the adoption of the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act 2007 (Act 672) in collaboration with the Federal Government to enhance solid waste management practices for long-term efficiency and sustainability, Nga elaborated.

If Selangor follows through with adopting Act 672, it will become the eighth state to do so, according to Nga’s statements as reported by Bernama.

The Sultan’s call for unity and collaboration to bolster the economy and enhance Selangor’s development underscores the importance of working together towards common goals.

By focusing on green initiatives, such as renewable energy and solid waste management, the state aims to contribute to environmental sustainability and economic progress.

The potential adoption of Act 672 highlights Selangor’s commitment to improving its waste management practices in alignment with national regulations and standards.
