The Deputy Communications and Digital Minister stated that the public can bring their old or broken gadgets to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) e-waste collection centers for proper recycling or disposal. Teo Nie Ching emphasized the importance of using the Kitar program to handle the estimated 364 million e-waste produced yearly in the country.

Teo Nie Ching also encouraged people to not simply throw away their old gadgets, as there are ways to properly recycle them. She mentioned that each e-waste item brought to MCMC will be sent to a specialist contractor to ensure that materials containing reusable elements or elements that require proper disposal are handled correctly.

Teo highlighted the fact that the amount of e-waste being produced will only continue to rise, especially since most people possess at least two gadgets, such as a laptop and a mobile phone. She stressed the importance of finding sustainable ways to manage this growing issue.

Additionally, Teo shared that during the Carbon Footprint En Route to Nature program, over 300 trees were planted by MCMC personnel, further highlighting the ministry’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Communications and Digital Minister acknowledged the importance of proper e-waste management, especially in a fast-paced technological environment where the rapid obsolescence of devices leads to a significant increase in electronic waste production.

Teo urged the public to take advantage of the opportunity to recycle or dispose of their old gadgets at MCMC e-waste collection centers, as it plays a crucial role in mitigating the environmental impact of electronic waste.
