A housewife in Seremban has been swindled out of nearly RM1.5 million by a phone scam. The victim was contacted by an individual claiming to be a police officer, who then proceeded to inform her that she had committed a crime.
Seremban police chief ACP Mohamad Hatta Che Din confirmed that the victim reported the incident last Friday, with the losses amounting to RM1,491,832.82. “The victim had received a phone call from an individual who introduced himself as a policeman and claimed that the victim had committed a crime,” he said.
According to Mohamad Hatta, the scam involved the victim being directed to make payments to several bank accounts that belonged to unknown individuals. He strongly urged members of the public to verify the identity of anyone claiming to be a police officer in order to avoid falling victim to similar scams. – Bernama
