MELAKA: A five-year-old girl and her teenage brother died after their motorcycle rammed into a dumpster left on the road shoulder along Sungai Udang-Paya Rumput-Ayer Keroh (SPA) Highway here.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit identified the victims as Nur Afiqah Sofea Hazlin and her 18-year-old brother Muhammad Amirul Hazlin who succumbed to serious injuries while being treated at Melaka Hospital.

He said the motorcycle that was ridden by Muhammad Amirul crashed into the roll-on roll-off (RoRo) bin along the stretch at about 6.15pm on Monday (Sept 23).

ACP Christopher Patit said the siblings passed away between Monday evening (Sept 23) and early Tuesday morning (Sept 24) at the hospital.

“The siblings were on their way to visit their father’s grave at Bertam Hulu for prayers before joining other family members for dinner,” he said on Tuesday (Sept 24).

ACP Christopher Patit said a preliminary investigation showed that Muhammad Amirul didn’t notice the RoRo bin left at the roadside before ramming into it.

He said the police are investigating the incident under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and are now trying to track down the owner of the RoRo as well as calling upon eye-witnesses to help in the probe.
