SIBU: Two men have been arrested for stealing solar street lamps worth RM11,300.
Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Zulkifli Suhaili said the arrest of the two men, aged 32 and 35, was made following several police reports lodged by the residents.
“Police had on June 30 received a report from the public informing that solar lights installed along the road from Sungai Pak to Sungai Lukut were stolen,” he told a press conference on Friday (July 28).
The next day, another four reports were received, he added.
ACP Zulkifli said upon investigations, police detained the two men on July 24.
The suspects were spotted driving a car in a suspicious manner, he said.
“We seized three sets of solar street lamps from the suspects, who admitted to the theft which they claimed were for personal use in their house garden,” he added.
ACP Zulkifli said the suspects, who have previous criminal and drugs records, had tested positive for methamphetamine.
Following the arrest, police believed they have solved a number of thefts involving public facilities in the area.

Additionally, the perpetrators tested positive for methamphetamine. Following their arrest, the police believe that they have successfully resolved numerous cases of theft related to public facilities in the area.
Stealing solar street lamps not only causes financial losses but also disrupts public safety and well-being. These street lamps are crucial in providing adequate lighting, especially during nighttime, to ensure individuals’ security and prevent accidents. Such thefts not only inconvenience the community but also compromise the infrastructure and resources allocated for public use.
