SIBU: Singapore’s largest charitable organization, the Lee Foundation, is donating RM500,000 to Citizen Middle School for the reconstruction of its hostel, according to SUPP Dudong chairman Wong Ching Yong. This is the first time a Chinese independent school in Sarawak has received such a significant donation from a private charitable organization.

During a press conference held on October 28, Wong shared that the fundraising campaign “One Person, One Ringgit” was initiated after the school hostel was destroyed by a fire in October 2020. Wong then sought assistance from various channels to rebuild the hostel.

Upon discussing the matter with the Chinese Weekly management team, it was suggested to apply for financial assistance from the Lee Foundation. They expressed strong support for the application, which was submitted on July 31, 2023. Lee Foundation approved a sum of RM500,000 to be granted to Citizen Middle School on October 19.
