KUCHING: The Deputy Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister for Sarawak, Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil, announced the implementation of a newly-updated manual to standardise the valuation procedures for assessment rates in all local authorities across the state.
Dr Penguang stated that the aim of the updated manual is to combine and streamline the existing valuation and assessment manuals. He highlighted the importance of implementing a harmonised set of guidelines to ensure all local authorities operate under the same procedures, regardless of their size or location within the state.
He emphasized the need to eliminate discrepancies and complaints regarding the differing procedures across different councils by implementing a standardised manual that applies to all local authorities in Sarawak.
The Deputy Public Health Minister officially launched the updated manual in Kuching on Tuesday (Jan 23), expressing his hope that it would address the discrepancies in operations among the various local authorities in the state.
According to Dr Penguang, the manual will require periodic improvement to ensure its relevance. He also stressed the importance of aligning the manual with Sarawak’s post-Covid-19 development strategy, particularly in terms of digitalisation.
Additionally, Dr Penguang urged for the incorporation of modern technology into the system, highlighting the importance of adapting to digital advancements.
He revealed that a task force comprising representatives from the ministry and local authorities commenced the process of updating the manual the previous year. The Lundu District Council was appointed as the secretariat to organize workshops involving all local authorities to facilitate the process.
