SEREMBAN: Two employees of a government hospital in Seremban have been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly soliciting and receiving bribes from undertakers. The MACC obtained a five-day remand order for the duo, who are in their 30s and 40s, from a Magistrate’s Court on Friday (Sept 29) morning. The remand application was made by MACC prosecuting officer Zainab Yahya before Magistrate Syed Farid Syed Ali. This brings the total number of hospital employees nabbed for corrupt activities to six.
The two individuals, who were detained on Thursday (Sept 28) at around 2.30pm, are being investigated in relation to the management of remains of non-Muslims at the hospital. It is alleged that they received bribes from two companies over a span of two years, from 2021 to last year, with a total of 12 bank transactions amounting to RM3,500.
An additional four employees of the same hospital were arrested on Sunday (Sept 24) by the MACC. The suspects, three men and a woman in their 30s to 50s, are accused of accepting bribes ranging from RM100 to RM600 from undertakers. They were taken into custody when they voluntarily visited the MACC office to provide statements. The four individuals allegedly received a total of RM11,000 through 42 transactions from two funeral service companies since last year.
All cases related to these arrests are being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
