(Reuters) – Norwegian ski jumper Silje Opseth made history on Sunday by setting a new women’s world record with a jump of 230.5 metres down the Monsterbakken in Vikersund, Norway. The 24-year-old initially jumped 236 metres in a trial run, but unfortunately, she fell on landing, resulting in bloody injuries to her face. Despite this setback, Opseth managed to achieve her record-breaking jump.
Another Norwegian jumper, Eirin Maria Kvandal, emerged as the overall winner of the inaugural women’s Ski Flying World Cup event, with flights of 202 and 212 metres. Slovenian Ema Klinec clinched third place in the competition.
Klinec, who previously held the world record, had reached a distance of 226 metres at the same venue a year ago.
